Through my artistic portraiture, I represent the true nature of the people I am portraying, often through environmental images.
In my commercial work, representing someone authentically is my priority. This is elevated by a timeless aesthetic. My style is classic with a contemporary twist, I’m very aware that portraits are something that people will want to keep for years, so I try to produce images that won’t date quickly.
My work is based on trust, connection and co-creation which all contribute to meaning making and visual storytelling.
Through experience I have learnt about posing, lighting, and postproduction. These elements can contribute to creating a flattering image. I find the key to a successful portrait is discussing preferences and feeling comfortable before starting the photoshoot.
It is advisable to opt for casual and neutral clothing, as it stands the test of time better than trending fashion items. We recommend steering clear of striking patterns, spots, and brand names, as these elements can divert attention away from faces.
Textures like cable knit, lace, tulle, chiffon, velvet, and fur photograph beautifully without causing distraction. Avoid prints as they can be distracting and obtrusive. Have 5 outfits ready for the shoot.
I have been specialising in portrait photography for over ten years. I have developed my style and artistic understanding during a two-and-a-half-year master’s degree in photography.
According to UK law, specifically the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, the copyright of any photograph remains with the photographer. As the photographer, I retain all copyright ownership over the images taken during the photography sessions.
Copying or scanning the images without written permission constitutes an infringement of copyright law. To obtain permission to use the images, please contact me to discuss your needs.
All my photographic equipment is insured. I have public liability insurance.
I prefer to work outdoors as most people are happier in a natural environment or in their own home and this produces the best results. I have a portable studio with lights and backdrops, so I can produce studio style shots at you own home. I require at least a 10-foot square area to work in.
Most of the time I work with natural and available light. Some indoor photography sessions work best with the use of 1 or 2 strobe lights.
I love when people share their images online with friends and family! However, if you do share them, make sure to give me photo credit (Stefania Distante) and include a link back to my photography page within whatever platform you are using. Please don’t apply any additional filters to alter or change the photographs in any way.
I may wish to use some of your images for website and social media content, as well as competitions and further qualifications purposes. Your explicit permission will be sought first, along with a signed model release. Your privacy is of utmost importance, and if you prefer not to have your images used in this manner, it is your right to decline.
Due to both storage costs and limitations on physical space, images from your session are retained for a period of up to one year. It is worth noting that if you do not view or place an order within 30 days of receiving your files, the images will be deleted to make space for ongoing work.
When creating individual images of your child, I ask you to stay nearby so your child is comfortable. Often, you will be behind me as an observer and not an active participant in the photoshoot (unless your help is required). I will be sure to communicate with you and ensure that you are completely comfortable during the entire process.
